Kyrgyzstan is preparing for the legalization of the seizure of crypto assets and the implementation of 'digital evidence'
Digital data will become official evidence in legal proceedings
A reform initiative aimed at combating cybercrime has been launched in Kyrgyzstan. The new draft law, currently under discussion with the public, for the first time provides legal mechanisms for the seizure, storage, and confiscation of virtual assets.
According to this document, digital information such as traffic logs and personal correspondence in messengers will be recognized as official evidence. This reform is aimed at eliminating legal gaps that often rendered electronic data inadmissible in court.
There is a significant emphasis on financial aspects: in cases where the seizure of cryptocurrency is not possible, the law will allow for the confiscation of corresponding property or monetary amounts. Experts emphasize that updating the Criminal and Criminal Procedure Codes of the Kyrgyz Republic will help synchronize national legislation with modern digital realities and facilitate international cooperation in investigations of transnational cybercrime.
