At a briefing at the White House on February 6, Donald Trump, responding to a question about the possibility of apologizing to former U.S. President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle for posting a video depicting them as monkeys, stated: "No, I did not make a mistake." This was reported by Deutsche Welle.

According to Trump, he only watched the beginning of the video but suggested that the ending might contain moments "that people might not like."

"I wouldn't like it either, but I didn't see it," he added, noting that he condemns the racist elements in the video.

The controversial 62-second video was posted on the social network Truth Social, owned by Trump, on the evening of February 5. It related to a conspiracy theory that he allegedly won the 2020 election but that the results were falsified in favor of Joe Biden. At the end of the video, the faces of Obama and Michelle were superimposed on images of monkeys, while the well-known song The Lion Sleeps Tonight, which became part of the soundtrack for the animated film "The Lion King," played in the background.

Initially, White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt justified the post, stating that the video merely portrays Trump as the king of the jungle and the Democrats as cartoon characters. However, 12 hours later, the video was removed, and the White House issued a new statement indicating that the post was made in error by one of the staff members.
