In the video dedicated to the 2020 elections, the Obamas were depicted as primates. It was posted on Thursday evening and gathered several thousand likes overnight.
Republican Senator Tim Scott, the only Black senator in Congress, called on Trump to remove the video, stating on platform X: "I hope this isn't true, because this is the most racist content I have ever seen from the White House. The president should take it down."
Hakim Jeffries, the Democratic minority leader in Congress, also expressed his discontent, saying: "Every Republican has a duty to immediately condemn the disgusting intolerance coming from Donald Trump."
In response to the criticism, the White House rejected the accusations of racism. Press Secretary Caroline Levitt noted: "This is a clip from a video where President Trump is portrayed as the king of the jungle, and the Democrats as characters from 'The Lion King.' Stop this false representation."
The video was also criticized by California Governor Gavin Newsom and Democratic Congressman Herb Konaway. Ben Rhodes, a former national security advisor, added: "Let Trump and his racist supporters realize that future generations will view the Obama family with respect, and him as a disgrace in our history."
As a result of the negative reaction, Donald Trump deleted his post with the video.
According to an unnamed source reported by CNN, "a White House staffer accidentally posted this. It has been removed."
