Sadyr Japarov, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, signed a decree amending the composition and structure of the Cabinet of Ministers.

According to this decree, the Border Service will now operate as an independent state body — the State Border Service of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The Cabinet of Ministers has been tasked with adapting its decisions in accordance with the new changes and ensuring their implementation.

The decree comes into force upon its official publication.

In recent years, the status of the Border Service of the Kyrgyz Republic has changed multiple times.

In 2012, the Border Troops were separated from the State National Security Committee (GKNB) and became an independent body, directly subordinate to the country's leadership.

However, in November 2020, the Border Service was again placed under the control of the GKNB as part of the reform of the security sector, with the head of the service receiving the status of the first deputy chairman of the GKNB.
