He made the decision to resign
On February 12, Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, the speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh, announced his decision to resign from his position.
This statement was made during a parliamentary session; however, Turgunbek uulu will continue to fulfill his duties as a deputy.
This step was taken against the backdrop of recent personnel changes made by President Sadyr Japarov.
Turgunbek uulu took office as speaker in 2022 and was re-elected in December 2025 after early elections to the Jogorku Kenesh.
It is worth noting that on February 10, following the resignation of the head of the State National Security Committee Kamchybek Tashiev, there was information about the possible resignation of the speaker after his return from Turkey. However, the press service of the Jogorku Kenesh denied these rumors, stating that such issues had not been raised and are not planned.
