Today, February 19, at a meeting of the collegium of the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports, and Youth Policy, Deputy Minister Marat Tagaev proposed to reconsider the blocking of TikTok in the country. The ministry confirmed this information.

According to him, the Center for Monitoring and Research of the Information Environment has been abolished, and now there is no body in Kyrgyzstan that can systematically interact with social networks and information platforms.

The Deputy Minister noted that despite the existing block, many citizens, including young people, continue to use TikTok through VPN services. "We are requesting to consider the possibility of lifting the ban on TikTok," the ministry quotes Tagaev.

For reference, in May 2024, TikTok was blocked based on a letter from the State Committee for National Security. Unlike the USA and some European countries, where the blocking of the Chinese social network is justified by data security and user privacy concerns, in Kyrgyzstan, the restrictions are justified by "harm to children's health."
