At the ninth congress of the Workers' Party of North Korea, Kim Jong Un was re-elected as General Secretary. This was reported by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

In the official statement, it is noted that the congress unanimously supported the proposal to re-elect Kim Jong Un to the highest position in the party.

According to Reuters, about 5,000 delegates attended this congress, which is standard practice, as such events are held every five years.

Kim Jong Un, who has been in power since 2011, continues to inherit authority from his father, Kim Jong Il, who ruled the country from 1994. In turn, Kim Jong Il also inherited his position after the death of his father, Kim Il Sung.
