At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Rahat Junushbaeva reported on the request from the residents of Karakol, who are urging the authorities to grant the city a status that would promote tourism development.

Local entrepreneurs, activists, and ordinary citizens approached her with an official letter containing more than 2000 signatures in support of this proposal.

“Karakol is a multinational administrative center with a rich history and cultural traditions. Its strategic geographical location makes it attractive to tourists. According to data, the city is visited by about 150,000 tourists annually, which creates opportunities for year-round tourism: in winter, skiing is actively developed, while in summer, eco-tourism, trekking, and gastronomic tours flourish,” she added.

The deputy also noted that with the increase in tourist flow, the burden on the city’s infrastructure is growing.

“However, Karakol's budget remains limited. Therefore, it is necessary to create a special legal regime and status for the city that will help attract investments and support further development,” emphasized Rahat Junushbaeva.
