Ayatollah Alireza Arafi temporarily heads Iran as part of the Leadership Council

The temporary leadership in Iran has been established, and it has been entrusted with the powers of the Supreme Leader until official elections take place. According to the ISNA agency, Ayatollah Alireza Arafi has taken a key position in this council as a jurist.

According to Iranian law, during the period until a new spiritual leader is elected, control over the state is exercised by a special commission. This commission includes, in addition to the 67-year-old Arafi, President Masoud Pezeshkian and the head of the judicial system Gholam Hossein Mohseni-Ejei. The assertion of Ayatollah Arafi's inclusion in the ruling triumvirate was made by the Council for the Determination of Political Expediency.

Alireza Arafi, who is considered a trusted person of Ali Khamenei and one of the most influential Shia figures, will perform the duties of the Supreme Leader together with other council members. It is anticipated that this transitional period will last until the Assembly of Experts, consisting of 88 theologians, selects a permanent candidate for the highest position.

Alongside the changes in political leadership, there have been reshuffles in military leadership: Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi has been appointed as the new commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
