Suspect in Mosque Thefts Detained in Bishkek

In the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, law enforcement authorities have detained a person suspected of committing thefts from mosques. This was reported by the press service of the city’s Main Department of Internal Affairs.

According to information, on January 7, 2026, a citizen named B.A. approached the Sverdlovsk District Department of Internal Affairs to file a theft report.

According to the complainant, on the same day, around 16:30, an unknown perpetrator, while in the mosque located in the "Dordoy" market during prayer, secretly stole a shoulder bag containing a wallet with money, a mobile phone, and personal belongings.

As a result of the investigation, the investigative service opened a criminal case under Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, concerning theft.

During operational investigative activities, officers of the Bishkek Main Department of Internal Affairs detained a young man named A.S., born in 2008, who had previously had legal issues. According to preliminary information, he was involved in thefts from mosques.

During the interrogation, the suspect admitted that the mobile phone he stole was sold at the Osh market for 3,000 soms, and he spent the proceeds on his needs.

The investigation is ongoing, and it is being checked whether he may be involved in other similar crimes in Bishkek.
