According to museum information, the damaged artifact is being displayed to the public for the first time.
The crown of Napoleon III's wife was found to be significantly bent, with one of the eight golden eagles missing, as well as ten diamonds out of 1354. However, all 56 emeralds remain intact.
Due to the damages, the Louvre plans to restore the crown and will announce a competition for restorers. The advisory committee will include representatives from renowned jewelry houses such as Cartier, Mellerio, Chaumet, Boucheron, and Van Cleef & Arpels.
