Umar Dzhabrailov was born on June 28, 1958, in Grozny. In 1997, he became the manager of the "Plaza" group of companies, which controlled several shopping centers, including "Okhotny Ryad" and "Smolensky Passage," as well as the "Russia" hotel and residential complexes.

The entrepreneur had previously attempted suicide in 2020, but he was saved at that time.

His life was full of scandals, including an incident involving gunfire at the Four Seasons hotel. This year, Dzhabrailov gave an interview to Ksenia Sobchak, in which he shared his long-standing struggle with drug addiction. Recently, he had begun to appear in public again, developing a closed "millionaires' chat," where he planned to share success secrets for a fee ranging from 2,000 to 20,000 rubles. Just a few days before his death, he commented on information regarding his inclusion in Jeffrey Epstein's files.
