A tragedy occurred in southern Spain: two high-speed trains derailed, resulting in the loss of more than 20 lives, reports RTVE.

The incident took place in the locality of Adamuz, located in the province of Córdoba. According to preliminary information, a train traveling from Malaga to Madrid first derailed. It entered the opposing track, where another train was present at that moment, leading to a collision and also causing it to derail.

According to one of the passengers, the force of the impact was so strong that it was compared to an earthquake.

According to preliminary data, there could have been up to 400 people on both trains. Train traffic in this section has been halted.

“The information we are receiving is very alarming,” wrote Spain's Minister of Transport, Oscar Puente, on social media platform X.

Rescue teams continue to work at the scene, extracting passengers who are unable to leave the train on their own.
