In the area of the city of Adamus, one of the trains derailed and crossed onto the opposing track, where it collided with another train. As a result, both trains derailed, and one of them fell off an embankment.
According to police reports, at least 21 people have become victims of the tragedy, and around 100 passengers were injured, with at least 25 in serious condition. The injured were taken to medical facilities in Andalusia.

The collision occurred around 6:40 PM local time, just ten minutes after the private operator Iryo's train departed from Córdoba to Madrid. The second train, Alvia, owned by the state company Renfe, was traveling from Madrid to Huelva and, according to media reports, was traveling at a speed of about 200 km/h at the time of the incident.
The causes of this tragedy have not yet been established. Spanish Minister of Transport Óscar Puente noted that a derailment on a straight section raises serious questions. The investigation is currently being conducted by the railway infrastructure operator Adif.
Emergency services and military personnel have been dispatched to the scene, continuing rescue operations. Access to the accident site is difficult, and authorities do not rule out the possibility of an increase in the number of casualties.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez canceled all scheduled events and took control of the situation. The royal family expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and injured.
