As Axios reports, U.S. special envoy Steve Whitcoff held a secret meeting with Reza Pahlavi, the leader of the Iranian opposition. Later, the publication's correspondent Barak Ravid added that at recent closed meetings, Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that the U.S. administration is looking for ways to support the protesters in Iran that do not involve the use of military force.

The State Department had previously advised U.S. citizens and their allies to leave the territory of Iran. In response to a question about what assistance the protesters would receive, the U.S. president stated, "Sorry, but you have to figure that out for yourselves."

During his speech in Detroit, the president called for the restoration of Iran's greatness with the slogan "Make Iran great again": "This country was great until these monsters came and took it over."

Furthermore, as reported by the Wall Street Journal, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Qatar expressed concerns to the U.S. that attempts to overthrow the Iranian regime could destabilize oil markets and ultimately harm the American economy. These countries fear that military actions against Iran could disrupt the transportation of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.
