In his post on the social media platform X, Fine stated: “This bill will allow the president to secure the funding necessary for the annexation of Greenland to the United States.”

He also emphasized: “Our opponents are seeking to strengthen their positions in the Arctic, and we cannot allow them to do so,” reflecting the stance of the current administration.

According to information released in a press release cited by The Hill, Fine expressed the opinion that “control over Greenland provides access to vital Arctic shipping routes and ensures the security of the United States.”

The bill grants President Donald Trump the authority to “take necessary actions to acquire Greenland as a territory of the United States,” including the possibility of annexing the island.

At the time of writing this article, there was no information on whether the lower house plans to discuss this bill.

Previously, Donald Trump had raised concerns about risks posed by Russia and China, claiming that this justifies the need for control over Greenland. However, diplomats from Northern Europe, as reported by the Financial Times, refuted his claims about the presence of Russian and Chinese vessels near the island.
