Trump expressed his love for Denmark and thanked it for its kindness, but noted that the landing of a Danish ship in Greenland 500 years ago does not confer ownership rights. "I am sure that our ships also went there," he added, discussing the status of the island.

According to the president, it is important for the security of the United States not just to lease but to actually own the territory. "Only by owning the land can we protect it. Leasing does not provide that opportunity. Protection only applies to ownership... We must take Greenland under our protection," he asserted.

Speaking about the geopolitical situation, Trump emphasized that he would not allow the U.S. to be neighbors with Russia or China. "We are going to take action regarding Greenland, regardless of their wishes; otherwise, control of the island will be taken by Russia or China," he stated.

Previously, Trump had repeatedly raised the issue of Greenland becoming part of the U.S., emphasizing its strategic importance for the protection of the "free world."

In response, former Prime Minister of Greenland Múte Egede emphasized that the island is not for sale and will never be put up for auction. Trump had also previously commented on the possibility of using force to establish control over Greenland.

Until 1953, Greenland was a colony of Denmark and remains part of the Danish Kingdom, but since 2009 it has enjoyed significant autonomy and the right to self-government in domestic policy matters.
