European countries issued a statement regarding the US claims on Greenland

France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Denmark issued a joint statement condemning the US claims on Greenland.

The document emphasizes that "Greenland belongs to its people, and decisions regarding Denmark and Greenland should be made solely by these two countries."

The leaders of the European states also highlighted that security in the Arctic region should be achieved through joint efforts and in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter, including territorial integrity and respect for borders.

On Sunday, US President Donald Trump, commenting on military actions in Venezuela, expressed his opinion on the strategic significance of Greenland for the country's security. The next day, the wife of Deputy White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller posted a picture on social media X featuring a map of Greenland colored in the colors of the American flag, with the caption: "Coming soon."

In response, Denmark's ambassador to Washington, Jesper Møller Sørensen, reminded of the importance of allied relations with the US and expressed hope for full respect for the territorial integrity of the kingdom. Greenland's Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen commented on the post, noting that it demonstrates a lack of respect, but reassured that there is no cause for panic.

According to the Economist, the US intends to offer Greenland a free association agreement that would allow for duty-free trade and ensure freedom of action for American armed forces on the territory of the agreement's participants.

The former Prime Minister of the autonomous region of Greenland, Mute Egede, confirmed that the island is not for sale. At the same time, Trump did not rule out the possibility of using military force to establish control over Greenland.

It is worth noting that until 1953, Greenland was a colony of Denmark. Although it is part of the Danish kingdom, in 2009 the island gained the right to self-governance and to determine its internal policies.
