The third approach consists of creating a free association agreement, which has already been implemented between the USA and several Pacific nations, such as the Federated States of Micronesia, the Marshall Islands, and Palau. These agreements include financial assistance from the USA in exchange for the transfer of defense powers, while internal self-governance remains with local authorities.
The fourth scenario implies that Greenland will remain part of Denmark, but with an increased military presence of the USA on the island. Under this option, commercial contracts may be signed with American companies in the field of mineral extraction, and representatives of the USA may be appointed as advisors to local authorities.
