The UK and France struck an ISIS target in Syria

Response to the December killing of American soldiers

According to DW, the strike targeted tunnels leading to a suspected Islamic State ammunition depot in the mountains near Palmyra. British Typhoon fighters, along with French aircraft, carried out the attack using Paveway IV guided bombs.

The UK Ministry of Defence reported that there were no civilians in the vicinity at the time of the strike, confirming adherence to precautionary measures. The department emphasized that preliminary data indicates the successful destruction of the target.

UK Defence Secretary John Healey noted that this action underscores the country's commitment to combating threats from ISIS and cooperating with allies to prevent the resurgence of terrorist ideology in the Middle East.

It should be noted that the United States leads an international coalition fighting ISIS in Syria and Iraq. Although the group has suffered significant losses, some of its militants remain active in these countries and continue to carry out attacks.

On December 13, 2023, an ISIS militant attacked American soldiers, resulting in the deaths of two servicemen and one civilian. US President Donald Trump promised retaliatory measures. On December 20, American forces struck over 70 ISIS targets in various provinces of Syria, as reported by US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegset on the social network X, adding that the actions were coordinated with the new authorities in Syria.

Additionally, on December 26, Trump stated in a post on Truth Social that American troops delivered a "powerful and deadly" strike against ISIS targets in Nigeria in response to the killings of civilians on religious grounds.
