Leaders of five parties in Greenland have issued a joint statement in response to U.S. President Donald Trump's plans to annex the island to the United States.
In the document published on the official government website, Greenlandic politicians, including Jens Frederik Nielsen (Democrats Party), Pele Bruberg (The Beacon), Mute Egede (People's Community), Aleka Hammond (Forward), and Akkaalu Erimiassen (Solidarity), demand that the White House cease its "disrespectful attitude" towards Greenland.

The statement emphasizes: "We do not wish to become Americans or Danes; we are Greenlanders. We want the United States to stop disregarding our land."

The authors also highlight that Greenland is a democratic country and seeks further cooperation with both the U.S. and other Western nations.

It is worth noting that Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed ideas about the necessity of annexing Greenland to the U.S. During his first presidential term, he proposed buying the island, and in March 2025, he expressed confidence in the possibility of its annexation, threatening Copenhagen with the imposition of tariffs if they refused.

Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark. In 1951, Washington and Copenhagen signed a Treaty for the Protection of Greenland, under which the U.S. committed to protecting the island from potential threats.
