China has announced the start of large-scale military maneuvers in the Taiwan area, dubbed "Fair Mission - 2025." The exercises begin today, according to Reuters.
All branches of the military will participate in these maneuvers, which will include live-fire drills, and there will be temporary restrictions on maritime and air traffic.

The command emphasized that these exercises serve as a "serious warning" to supporters of Taiwan's independence and external forces seeking to interfere in regional affairs. During the exercises, tasks such as patrolling, integrated control, and blocking key ports and territories, as well as multidimensional deterrence, will be practiced.

The plan for the maneuvers includes five zones around Taiwan where restrictions on shipping and flights will be established. These exercises will be the sixth of their kind since 2022, and in the initial public statements from Beijing, the goal of "deterring" foreign military intervention is mentioned.

The situation in the region is escalating. In November, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takachi declared that the conflict surrounding Taiwan could pose a threat to Japan's survival, which would provide grounds for collective self-defense. In response, China threatened Japan with a "devastating blow."

Additionally, in December, the United States announced a record military aid package to Taiwan amounting to $11.1 billion, which includes supplies of HIMARS systems, ATACMS missiles, and drones. Washington noted that these measures are aimed at strengthening national security and stability in the region.
