North Korea conducted exercises for launching long-range strategic cruise missiles

As part of these exercises, the Central Telegraph Agency of Korea (CTAK) reported that the task was to check the readiness of specialized units for counterattacks and their combat effectiveness. The military practiced maneuvers and carried out fire missions, as well as tested the reliability of strategic weapons. The missiles successfully reached their targets, flying over the sea for almost 170 minutes along the designated trajectory.

Kim Jong Un characterized these exercises as successful and called for continued efforts for the "unlimited and sustainable development of the state’s nuclear combat forces," noting that this is necessary in light of the various threats the country faces.

According to Yonhap news agency, South Korean military detected several missile launches from the Sunan area near Pyongyang at 8:00 AM on December 28. They suspect that North Korea may conduct additional missile tests by the end of the year. The agency also emphasizes that ahead of an important party congress scheduled for 2026, Kim Jong Un is increasingly inspecting military facilities and exercises, highlighting the country's achievements in the defense sector.

Earlier, on December 24, North Korea conducted the launch of new long-range surface-to-air missiles in the Sea of Japan.
