Bulgaria will switch to using the euro from January 1, 2026
Starting from January 1, 2026, Bulgaria will officially switch to the euro and will stop using the Bulgarian lev as its national currency. This was reported by Reuters.
Becoming the 21st country to adopt the euro, Bulgaria will increase the total number of European Union citizens using this currency to 350 million.

However, the issue of introducing the euro has sparked controversy among Bulgarians, especially among those with cultural and political ties to Russia. Many express doubts about the country's further movement towards Europe.

Despite this, businesses in Bulgaria are actively preparing for the transition to the new currency. As noted in the report, prices in Sofia are already displayed in two currencies, and billboards provide information about the exchange rate of the euro to the lev.
