At the fish auction in Japan, a bluefin tuna was sold for a record $3.2 million
At a fishing auction in Tokyo, a new record was set: a bluefin tuna weighing 243 kilograms was sold for an impressive 510 million yen, equivalent to $3.2 million. This auction marked the first of 2023 at the Tokyo Toyosu market.

This amount surpassed the previous record set in January 1999, when a tuna was sold for 333.6 million yen ($2.9 million).

Local restaurateurs actively participate in such auctions, as purchasing the main lot at the first auction of the year is considered a symbol of good luck and a prestigious event.
