The press service of the Bishkek City Police Department reported the detention of suspects in a major theft on January 22.

On January 8, a resident of Bishkek contacted the police, reporting that her wallet had been stolen from her bag while she was on minibus No. 161. It contained 595,000 soms, $400, and jewelry worth 100,000 soms.

This crime was classified under Article 205 ("Theft") of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Officers from the Main Investigation Department of the Bishkek City Police detained the suspects at the Sary-Özön market. They are men Sh.M. and Zh.A., both born in 1985, who have previous convictions. The Lenin District Court decided to remand them in custody at Pretrial Detention Center No. 1.

During a search of the Daewoo Nexia vehicle, the stolen jewelry was found. The investigation suggests that the detainees were traveling in this car. On the day of the theft, around 09:10 AM, they parked the Nexia on Saltikov Street and got into minibus No. 161 heading to the Dordoy market. Noticing the appearance of the victim, they assumed she worked at the market. After committing the theft, the men called a taxi to get to the location where they left their car. They paid 1,000 soms for the ride — this was part of the stolen amount.

Law enforcement agencies do not rule out that the detainees may be involved in other similar crimes. In this regard, the police urge anyone who has fallen victim to the actions of these men or has any information to contact the following numbers: 0 (509) 26-26-69, 0 (702) 07-12-63, and 102.
