“We will pay special attention to the medals, as their presentation is one of the critically important moments for athletes,” he noted.
A representative of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee also commented on the situation for BBC, emphasizing that the American team expects a solution to the problem from the organizers. It is still unknown whether athletes will be given new medals to replace the broken ones.
It is worth noting that similar incidents with Olympic medals have occurred before at the Games.
