Lucas, who is 25 years old, recorded a total time of 2 minutes 25.00 seconds over two runs.
In second place was Swiss athlete Marco Odermatt, who was 0.58 seconds behind, while the bronze medal went to his compatriot Loic Meillard (+1.17).
Thus, Lucas Pinheiro Broten became the first athlete from South America to bring home a medal at the Winter Olympics.
Interestingly, Lucas is the son of a Norwegian and a Brazilian, was born in Norway, and represented that country on the international stage until 2023. He managed to win five races and became the slalom World Cup champion, but after a conflict with the Norwegian federation over marketing rights, he announced his retirement. However, in 2024, he returned, now representing Brazil, and in November 2025, he won his new team’s first gold at a World Cup stage.
It is also worth noting that Kazakh figure skater Mikhail Shaidurov sensationally won the men's singles tournament at the 2026 Olympics, becoming the first in Kazakhstan's history to win Olympic gold in figure skating.
