

Kyrgyz judoka Erlan Sherov won a gold medal at the European Judo Cup, which took place from February 14 to 15 in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. This was reported by the State Agency for Physical Culture and Sports.
513 athletes from 45 countries participated in the competition.
In the under 90 kg category, Sherov confidently passed all stages of the tournament, skipping the first round due to a draw.
In the 1/16 finals, the Kyrgyz athlete won against Belgian Karl Fubert, then in the 1/8 finals he defeated Lithuanian Augustas Slizerins, and in the quarterfinals he was stronger than Frenchman Eniel Keroli. The semifinal match brought him victory over Egyptian Abdallah Abdelsameh.
In the final, Sherov faced Russian judoka David Karapetyan and, winning, became the champion of the tournament.
Kyrgyzstan was represented at this tournament by three athletes: Erlan Sherov (under 90 kg), Erbol Abasbekov, and Khanbolot Yrysbekov (both under 66 kg). The head coaches of the team are Erkin Ibragimov and Azat Kubakaev.
