Erlan Sherov won gold at the European Cup in Slovenia

Judo athlete from Kyrgyzstan Erlan Sherov won at one of the stages of the European Cup, which took place in Ljubljana from February 14 to 15.

Sherov competed in the weight category up to 90 kg, where 48 participants fought for medals.

The Kyrgyzstani was seeded number one and began his journey from the 1/16 finals.

During the tournament, he achieved three consecutive victories over opponents from Belgium, Lithuania, and Egypt, which allowed him to reach the final.

In the decisive match for gold, Sherov faced David Karapetyan, the 2020 European youth champion from Russia.

The Kyrgyzstani won this bout by ippon, becoming the champion of the tournament.

Besides Sherov, the competition also featured Erbol Abasbekov and Khanbolot Yrysbekov (both up to 66 kg), but they were unable to win medals.
