Erlan Sherov's Gold in Slovenia Became Historic for Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyz athlete Erlan Sherov won gold at one of the stages of the European Judo Cup.

The competition took place on February 14-15 in the Slovenian city of Ljubljana.

Sherov competed in the weight category up to 90 kg, where 48 athletes participated. Thanks to his successful previous performances, he received the top seed and began the competition from the 1/16 finals.

On his way to the final, the Kyrgyz athlete achieved three confident victories over opponents from Belgium, Lithuania, and Egypt.

In the decisive match for the gold medal, Sherov defeated David Karapetyan from Russia, who was the European youth champion in 2020, winning by ippon.

This medal became the first for Kyrgyzstan in the history of the European Cup.
