After the dismissal of Ruben Amorim, Manchester United has decided to appoint Michael Carrick as interim head coach. The former club midfielder and Middlesbrough manager is now tasked with stabilizing the team, helping it secure a top-4 finish in the Premier League, and ensuring qualification for the Champions League.
The club's management unanimously selected Carrick for this position. Jason Wilcox, the director of football, emphasized his knowledge of the club and leadership qualities, stating: "Michael is a great coach who understands what it takes to win at Manchester United."
Carrick's main philosophy focuses on an attacking and positive style of play, teamwork, hard work, and humility. In his previous role at Middlesbrough, he successfully led the team out of the relegation zone, highlighting his strengths and areas for growth.
Carrick will begin conducting his first training sessions this week, preparing for the upcoming Manchester derby.
