According to information provided by DW, during the restoration of the basilica, founded in the 4th century and renovated in the 17th century, it was noted that the features of the angel resemble the face of Giorgia Meloni. Some renowned artists, such as Bernini, Rainaldi, Bompiani, and Reni, worked on the frescoes and sculptures of this temple. The latest restoration work was carried out by Bruno Valentinetti.

Italian media emphasize the restorer's connection to right-wing political circles, which has sparked rumors that the features of the angel were intentionally stylized to resemble the image of the Prime Minister representing the far-right party "Brothers of Italy".

On her Instagram page, Meloni posted a photo of the fresco and ironically reacted to the situation, stating:

“No, I definitely do not look like an angel,” she added a laughing emoji.

The Italian Minister of Culture, Alessandro Giuli, has initiated an investigation into the fresco to clarify the details of the work carried out and determine further actions.
