At her traditional New Year press conference, Meloni noted that if European countries communicate only with one side of the conflict, their efforts will not be effective.
She stated: “I believe it is time for Europe to start talking to Russia. If it participates in the current negotiation process by only communicating with one side, its contribution to resolving the situation will be limited.”
The Prime Minister added that negotiations should be conducted “in a coordinated manner,” otherwise Europe may do a “favor” to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Furthermore, Giorgia Meloni pointed out that it is premature to talk about Russia's return to the G8 format at this stage.
