According to information provided on December 29 by the state company Valsts Nekustamie Ipasumi (VNI), Latvia has completed the construction of a 280-kilometer fence on the border with Russia. This continuous barrier has been installed in areas where it was feasible considering technical conditions.
Interior Minister Rihards Kozlovskis noted that the installation of high-tech equipment continues at the border. "Our main task is to create a modern border security system on the eastern side of the European Union," he emphasized.

Additionally, VNI reported that work on the border infrastructure is ongoing. This includes the construction of patrol paths, pedestrian bridges, and other necessary engineering structures.

It is worth noting that the Baltic States—Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia—are actively building or have already completed the construction of barriers on the border with Russia. Finland is also engaged in similar projects.
Latvia, for its part, completed the construction of a 145-kilometer fence on the border with Belarus in July 2024.
