On February 1, 2026, 16 significant flares occurred on the Sun, including M and X class flares, as reported by the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Institute of Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
According to the laboratory, in the last ten years, only one day, December 29, 2024, showed a greater number of flares. Now, February 1, 2026, holds the second place for the number of events during this period.
Scientists noted that the constant release of energy in M-class flares likely serves as a protective mechanism, preventing the occurrence of more powerful flares.
The Institute of Applied Geophysics reported to TASS that the strongest of the recorded flares was registered on February 1 at 15:33 Moscow time.
