The blogger ate the most poisonous crab for a video and died

A tragedy occurred in the Philippines involving food blogger Emma Amit, who passed away after tasting the most poisonous crab in the country — the devil crab. This was reported by the Daily Mail.

The 51-year-old woman went with friends to the mangrove forests to catch crabs and mollusks. During the process, she cooked the crabs in coconut milk and filmed everything for her blog. After the meal, the friends went home.

After some time, Amit began to feel unwell. She lost consciousness at home, started having seizures, and her lips turned blue. The blogger was immediately taken to the hospital, but unfortunately, they were unable to save her. Doctors continue to monitor the condition of her friends, who are currently fine.

The police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of Emma's death. They inspected the cooking site and found the shells of devil crabs, known for their high toxicity.

Leddy Gemang, the village chief where the blogger lived, expressed shock at what happened. He noted that Emma was an experienced fisherwoman and should have known about the toxicity of devil crabs. "Why did she eat it? This question troubles me," added Gemang.

The devil crab (Zosimus aeneus) inhabits coral reefs and is easily recognized by its characteristic shell adorned with brown spots. Its meat and shell contain dangerous neurotoxins (tetrodotoxin and saxitoxin), which do not break down even with thermal processing. This species of crab is considered the most poisonous in the Philippines.
