In the Brazilian state of São Paulo, the most populous in the country, a law has been passed allowing the burial of pets alongside their owners. This was reported by Kazinform, citing BBC.

According to the information, the law establishes sanitary requirements that will be determined by local funeral services. Additionally, it recognizes the "emotional bond between people and their pets."

Interestingly, the new law has been informally dubbed "Bob the Gravedigger" in honor of a dog named Bob, who remained at the burial site of his owner in São Paulo for ten years. Bob Coveyro, as he was called, did not leave the grave despite attempts by the owner's relatives to take him away. As a result, cemetery staff built a special doghouse for Bob, and after his death in 2021, when he was hit by a car, he was also buried next to his owner.

According to data from the Pet Brasil Institute, Brazil ranks third in the world in the number of pets, with a total reaching 160 million.
