
According to the minister, of the total debt amounting to $3.5 billion, about $3 billion (87%) is external debt, while $500 million (13%) is internal debt.
As of January 1, 2025, the total national debt of Tajikistan was estimated at $3.6 billion, which is 25.2% of GDP. Of this amount, $3.2 billion (89%) is external debt, while internal debt amounts to $400 million (11%).
Faiziddin Kakhhorzoda also reported that last year the Ministry of Finance signed 31 agreements with various agencies to implement 25 state investment projects worth $619 million.
He noted that $504.6 million was allocated for servicing external debt in 2025: of this amount, $416.3 million went to repay the principal debt, while $88.3 million was for interest payments.
The minister emphasized that there were no deviations from the plan for servicing debts to international financial institutions and individual states.
The China Export-Import Bank remains the main external creditor of Tajikistan, and the debt to it has gradually decreased to nearly $700 million.
In addition, the republic has significant debts to the World Bank (about $380 million), the Asian Development Bank (over $250 million), the Islamic Development Bank (more than $250 million), the International Monetary Fund ($195 million), and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development ($165 million).
