According to investigative authorities, the incident occurred on February 20 near Cape Khoboy, when a UAZ vehicle, carrying nine people, fell through the ice. An investigative operational group is working at the scene.
The Governor of the Irkutsk region, Igor Kobzev, published information that only one passenger managed to survive; the others are likely deceased.
In connection with the incident, a criminal case has been initiated under part 3 of article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, concerning the provision of services that do not meet safety requirements, resulting in the unintentional death of two or more persons, as well as under part 3 of article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which pertains to negligence.
Currently, the circumstances of the tragedy are being established.
