Freedom House: The level of political rights in the USA is lower than in Mongolia

According to a report by Freedom House, the United States scored 73 out of 100 for internet freedom, but its rating for political rights was 34 out of 40, which is lower than Mongolia's score of 36 out of 40. This was reported by MiddleAsiaNews.

Since the beginning of multiparty elections in Mongolia after the peaceful revolution of 1990, the country has established itself as an electoral democracy where political rights and civil liberties are respected. However, political parties still operate within patronage networks rather than on a competitive basis, and corruption remains a serious issue.

The classification of countries based on the "Freedom in the World" index is based on a combination of political rights scores from 0 to 40 and civil liberties scores from 0 to 60.

Mongolia, with an overall freedom score of 84 out of 100, is considered a free country, as is the United States (84/100). At the same time, Russia, with a freedom score of 12 out of 100, internet freedom of 17 out of 100, and a transit country score of 1 out of 100, is considered unfree and under an authoritarian regime. Kazakhstan, with a score of 23 out of 100, is also classified as an unfree country.

The United States is a federal republic where citizens enjoy a dynamic political system, a tradition of the rule of law, and broad freedoms, including freedom of expression and religion. However, in recent years, there has been an erosion of democratic institutions, manifested in increased political polarization, extremism, pressure from parties on the electoral process, abuses in the justice and immigration systems, and rising inequality in wealth and political influence.
