The story of the search for the new dinosaur began with a mention made by a French geologist in his monograph from the 1960s, where he spoke of the discovery of a dinosaur tooth in a small area in Niger. However, at that time, evidence of this find was lacking. Later, this became the basis for organizing a series of expeditions across the desert, during which scientists not only found the tooth but also the jaw and skull of a spinosaurus. The results of their work were published just four years later in the journal Science.
