According to the Ukrainian Telegram channel Supernova+, the strike on the airport was carried out by a "Shahed-136" drone. The distance from Nakhchivan to the border with Iran is less than 30 kilometers.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported that the drone's fall caused damage to the airport infrastructure, and two people were injured. Additionally, another Iranian drone fell near a school in the village of Shekerabad. In this regard, the Foreign Ministry summoned the Iranian ambassador Mojtaba Demirchilu for explanations.
The official statement from the Azerbaijani foreign ministry emphasizes the need to "clarify this incident as soon as possible, provide explanations, and take urgent measures to prevent similar situations in the future."
Azerbaijan also noted that the incident "contradicts the norms and principles of international law and exacerbates tensions in the region," reserving the right to take retaliatory actions.
