Trump promised Cuba a new life after Iran

President Trump noted: “Cuba is experiencing the last days of its former life. It has a bright future ahead.” He added that currently the focus is on Iran, but after that they will “wrap up all matters.”

Addressing Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump inquired what steps he would take after the situation with Iran is resolved: “Perhaps he will take a short break, and then deal with negotiations regarding Cuba — it will be easy,” he said.

Previously, Trump had already stated that after Iran, the issue of Cuba for the U.S. is just a matter of time, and predicted that the Cuban government “will fall soon.” In his opinion, Havana “wants to make a deal so much that you can’t even imagine.” He also mentioned plans to send Rubio to negotiate with the Cuban authorities.

U.S. forces began to increase their presence in the Caribbean since August 2025. Starting in September, American military forces began attacks on vessels suspected of drug trafficking. At the end of January 2026, Trump declared a state of emergency in the country due to the threat to national security posed by Cuba.
