The Bank of England has announced a redesign of its banknotes, which will involve removing images of historical figures and replacing them with images of wildlife. According to Bloomberg, possible new images may include animals such as badgers and hedgehogs.

This decision was made after approximately 44,000 citizens participated in a public discussion, during which the majority expressed support for the use of natural motifs on banknotes. Images of historical figures, including Winston Churchill, came in third place in the voting.

The new series of banknotes will include denominations of £5, £10, £20, and £50, on the reverse side of which images of animals will replace those of well-known Britons. However, the portrait of King Charles III will remain on the front side of the banknotes, while images of figures such as Jane Austen, William Turner, and Alan Turing will be removed.
