Iran-linked hacktivist group hacked the email of the FBI director
The FBI confirmed its awareness of attempts to hack the personal email of its director and noted that all necessary measures have been taken to minimize potential consequences. The Bureau emphasized that the leaks do not contain information about ongoing operations.
According to the publication, the disclosed emails date back to the early 2010s and contain details of Patel's trips from 2012 to 2019, including receipts for airline tickets, train passes, and hotel bookings. Also made public were photographs of Patel with cars bearing Cuban license plates and a fragment of his earlier resume.
Handala claims that this hack was a response to recent actions by the FBI, which last week seized several domains associated with this group. These measures, Axios reports, were taken after Handala claimed responsibility for a cyberattack on the American medical technology company Stryker.
The publication also emphasizes that this attack could become one of the most significant in the context of the confrontation between the U.S., Israel, and Iran. Experts warn that Iranian entities may combine cyberattacks on critical infrastructure with information operations to create chaos and misinformation during times of conflict.
