On Wednesday morning, the Merapi volcano in Indonesia's West Sumatra province erupted, accompanied by the release of volcanic ash up to 1.6 kilometers above the crater. This was reported by the ANTARA news agency.

According to a statement from Ahmad Rifandi, a representative of the volcano observation post, the eruption occurred at 09:36 local time (05:36 Moscow time). The ash column reached a height of about 1,600 meters above the volcano's summit.

Currently, the danger level for the Merapi volcano is set at the second level. The Indonesian Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Risk Reduction (PVMBG) has issued recommendations prohibiting any activities within a three-kilometer radius from the epicenter of activity for both local residents and tourists.

PVMBG also warned of the potential danger of cold lava flows.
