Mongolia and Germany will cooperate in creating agricultural cooperatives

In Mongolia, the implementation of the German traditional model "Genossenschaft" is taking place, aimed at supporting agricultural cooperatives to improve their competitiveness in the market.

The cooperative "Uilgan," located in the Tsagaan-Uur sum of Khövsgöl province, has signed a memorandum of understanding with "Untere Spreewald" from Brandenburg, Germany. Additionally, the cooperative "Shosooloshton" from Darkhan-Uul has also entered into a similar agreement with the cooperative "Grossmar." Under these memorandums, the parties agreed to implement a program for training young specialists in agriculture in Germany. This was reported by MiddleAsianNews.

The Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry confirmed the achievement of an agreement on training specialists in this field.

The Minister of Agriculture and Food, Badamsuren Myagmarsuren, signed the memorandums during the Berlin Conference of Agriculture Ministers in 2026 and the 18th Global Forum on Food and Agriculture, which took place in Germany from January 16 to 18, 2026. He also visited the "International Green Week" exhibition, where new trends and solutions in sustainable development for the food and agricultural sectors were presented.

During the conference, the Minister of Agriculture and Food of Mongolia held meetings with Hanka Mittelstädt, the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Consumer Protection of Brandenburg, and Georg-Ludwig von Breitenbuch, the Minister of Agriculture and Environment of Saxony. As a result of the discussions, an agreement was reached on joint work to identify opportunities for projects in the food and agriculture sector, improve legislation in Mongolia's agricultural sector, and implement the "Genossenschaft" system to enhance the competitiveness of cooperatives.

The forum gathered over 80 ministers and leaders of international organizations who discussed important issues of food security, climate change, effective water resource management, and sustainable policies in agriculture. Participants noted the need to implement modern technologies in the agricultural sector to ensure food security and sustainable development.

Genossenschaft is an organization created for joint economic activities aimed at increasing the income of participants and developing their social and economic status. The principle of "Hilfe durch Selbsthilfe" ("help through self-help") is the foundation of cooperatives, which help to unite efforts to achieve goals that are difficult to accomplish alone. Unlike joint-stock companies, cooperatives are independent of external investors and operate solely in the interests of their members. Genossenschaft is registered as a legal entity under private law.
