
Dashpurev Buriad, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, met with Michael Flores, Director of the Korean-Mongolian Division of the U.S. Department of State, as well as representatives from the American embassy. The main topic of discussion was the implementation of bilateral agreements on cooperation in the management of mineral resources and labor relations. This was reported by MiddleAsianNews.
During the meeting, the participants discussed the implementation of previously signed Memoranda of Understanding regarding cooperation in the development and management of mineral resources, as well as labor cooperation. Secretary Buriad expressed interest in establishing a joint working group to develop a specific plan for the implementation of these agreements.
The parties agreed on the need for deeper cooperation in the areas of legal reforms, investments, and technologies aimed at geological exploration, local governance, and social acceptance issues, as well as improving management in the mining industry and safety standards.
U.S. representatives confirmed their readiness to continue providing technical and advisory support to Mongolia in the process of adapting its mining legislation to international standards.

Legal reform: Receiving technical assistance from the U.S. Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) to eliminate legislative duplications and redundancies within the reforms in the fields of minerals, oil, and nuclear energy being conducted by Mongolia;
Investments and technologies: Attracting investments to implement advanced American technologies in geology and exploration, mineral resource assessment, and the development of high-tech industries;
Local relations and governance: Applying U.S. best practices and technical support to enhance public recognition of the mining industry through the implementation of local policies and raising citizen awareness;
Capacity building: Continuing educational programs and practical training to prepare specialists in the mining industry according to modern safety and labor protection standards.
As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed on close cooperation in assessing compliance with mineral resource legislation and improving the legal environment in accordance with international standards, which should make interactions more effective and create a mechanism for regular dialogue.
