A severe snowstorm has hit the United States, impacting the lives of 200 million residents, according to ABC News.
The National Weather Service reports significant snowfall covering areas from New Mexico to New England on the east coast of the country. In some places, snow accumulation reached nearly 40 cm.
According to PowerOutage monitoring, over 900,000 homes are without electricity. Due to the harsh weather conditions, seven people, including two in Louisiana, have died from hypothermia. The snowfalls have also created serious transportation issues across the country: over 15,000 flights were canceled over the past weekend, and ferry services have been suspended in some regions.
A state of emergency has been declared in 23 states. U.S. President Donald Trump assured on Friday that emergency services are prepared for the upcoming record low temperatures and heavy snowfall.
